Charity in my country (Благотворительность в моей стране)
The charitable foundation “Gift of Life”(Podari Zhizn) was created in 2006 in Moscow by two Russian actresses Dina Korzun and Chulpan Khamatova. It’s main concern is to help children and young adults with cancer and other serious illnesses. “Gift of Life” is one of the largest charitable organizations in Russia. It has already helped thousands of sick children.
The foundation raises money to buy medications and special equipment for hospitals because the treatment of seriously ill children is extremely expensive and their families cannot afford it. A lot of people volunteer to help them raise money. Some volunteers come to hospitals to draw with children, organize performances and competitions, sing songs and make cartoons. They disguise themselves as clowns, learn to show tricks, blow soap bubbles or sculpt from clay. And they come up with many other incredible things that can bring joy to a sick child.
There are hundreds of other charitable foundations in our country. Our parents can also donate just a small sum of money to help seriously ill children, orphans, disabled children or elderly people. I’m sure our help is really important because we can save somebody’s life. Life is so precious and I believe there is nothing more important than life!

Ее основная цель – помогать детям и подросткам, больным раком и другими серьезными заболеваниями. «Подари Жизнь» является одной из крупнейших благотворительных организаций в России. Она уже помогла тысячам больных детей.
Фонд собирает денежные средства на приобретение лекарственных препаратов и специального медицинского оборудования для больниц, потому что лечение детей с серьезными заболеваниями крайне дорого, и их семьи не могут такое себе позволить. Многие люди работают волонтерами и помогают собирать деньги. Некоторые волонтеры приходят в больницы, чтобы рисовать вместе с детьми, организовать представления и конкурсы, петь песни и создавать мультфильмы. Они переодеваются в костюмы клоунов, учатся показывать фокусы, дуют мыльные пузыри и моделируют из глины. И они приходят еще со множеством других невероятных идей, для того чтобы порадовать больного ребенка.

Sometimes different difficulties happen. Often people have no opportunity to solve these problems by themselves. In this case they can apply to charitable organisations for a help. Such organisations are aimed to help people who need such help.
Иногда возникают разные трудности. Часто люди не имеют возможности самостоятельно решить эти проблемы. В этом случае они могут обратиться за помощью в благотворительные организации. Такие организации призваны помочь людям, которые нуждаются в такой помощи.
Why do people work for charitable causes? The main reason why people do it is just the readiness to do good and to help other people. Many people understand how important to be the part of the society and the world we live in. They understand that what they do can be the great help for somebody.
Почему люди занимаются благотворительностью? Главная причина, по которой люди делают это – желание делать добро и помогать другим людям. Многие люди понимают, насколько важно быть частью общества и мира, в котором мы живем. Они понимают, что то, что они делают, может быть большой помощью для кого-то.
Charity can have different forms. It can be long-term when it does not depend on particular events or situations, for example, the work of different charitable funds aimed to help people who have some diseases or help students who need to go to some country to gain experience at particular university of that country. Some charitable organisations are established for a short term, for example, to help people who have sufferred from some natural disaster. Charitable organisations can be established by the government, local authorities or even a particular person.

Она может быть долгосрочной, когда не зависит от конкретных событий или ситуаций, например, работа различных благотворительных фондов, направленных на помощь людям, имеющим некоторые заболевания, или помощь учащимся, которым необходимо поехать в другую страну, чтобы получить опыт в конкретном университете этой страны. What can be done for charitable causes? Of course, people can donate something to charity. Money is one of the most common donation. It is also possible to donate clothes, food and different things. One more way to work for charitable causes is to improve environmental conditions or to transfer the knowledge.

At that time my family had financial problems. My parents were absolutely against the idea to busk but I was very persistent. I took my ukulele and went out full of anticipations. My hands were almost dead with cold. But I knew how much music might warm me and passers- by. As people passed by, they slowed down their pace, lifted their heads from their phones, opened their eyes and ears, stopped and listened to the music, my music for strangers who might or might not want to hear me. Some people came up to me just to talk, other people seemed surprised. Some teens danced and sang along, others dropped coins into my case.
I feel really grateful to that day because I was able to make a little extra money for my family. At the same time people helped me realize that busking is not only about money, but it is also about inspiring smiles and what charity means. After all I managed to do this, thanks to kindness of people and their voluntary help. I realized that charity is a real humanitarian act, based on generosity and compassion.
That amazing day changed my mind about charity. When I was a child I always felt sorry for helpless aged and disabled people begging on the streets to survive. I wish to be a millionaire to give them a shelter and some food. Growing up I found out that there are some people who cheat and manipulate others just using their kindness and compassion.
The Internet is also full of information about compassion, mercy and donation both from common people and celebrities. But the Internet users have a dual approach on this issue. Some people really feel admired about charity but others are sure donations are made just for their own benefit. They say that some people donate just to drown their own pain and forget about negative emotions or just hide their problems away or to be like their idol.
It didn’t really affect me and stop believing in generosity. I still believe in simple human kindness because when you do something positive for people you open a bright side of your heart.
At the same time the Internet helps to understand better why it’s important to support and donate. It encourages young people to do something good through their volunteer commitment. I have read about the children who collect children’s books for shelters, monthly visit local homeless shelters to volunteer, create and distribute care bags with comforting items and a lot more.
At our school different charity events are also held every year. Students bring scrap paper to school, items for children from low-income families or some pet food. Some of my friends visit animal shelters every month and help them in organizing of dog shows. Every child has an opportunity to do some good things and put his efforts and energy into charity.
