The Beatles to this day are one of the most famous and popular rock’n’roll groups in the world. The group shattered many sales records and had more than fifty top hit singles. The Beatles started a new era of music. Their music was unusual because most rock was strong beat with no melody, and they added melody to the rock. The Beatles also added strong and meaningful lyrics.
The group included George Harrison, john Lennon, paul McCartney, and Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr).
All of the Beatles where born and raised in Liverpool, England. John Lennon was the leader of the band, one of the two lead singers, the rhythm guitarist and a song writer. George Harrison was the lead guitarist. Paul McCartney was a song writer, one of the two lead singers, and a bassist. Ringo Starr played the drums.
The Beatles were discovered on November 9, 1961 by Brian Epstein, a manager of a record store in Liverpool. The Beatles early music was influenced by singers Bob Dilan, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. Their first two song were Love Me Do and Please, Please Me. After a while their own musical ideas started to emerge, and their music developed from naive and simple to sophisticated. The Beatles starred in two feature films, A Hard Days Night, which earned 1.3 million dollars in its first week, and Help. They also had their own full length cartoon called Yellow Submarine.
In 1964 The Beatles came to New York City for the first time and were an instant success. A couple of weeks later after their New York appearance, the five best selling records were by The Beatles; they became world-famous. They introduced a new style in clothing and appearance, too. They wore their hair long and shaggy, and soon all over the world people started wearing the Beatles haircut. They were so popular that ‘Beatlemania’ emerged. In 1967 the Beatles directed a movie Magical Mystery Tour about themselves, in which they toured the English countryside in search of wonder, fun, and magic.
In 1970 the world-famous and world-loved Beatles separated. Thirty-five years later, in 2005, the American entertainment industry magazine Variety named them the most iconic entertainers of the 20th century.

The Beatles
The english rock music band The Beatles gave to the 1960s its characteristic musical flavor and had a profound influence on the course of popular music, equaled by few performers. The guitarists John Winston Lennon, Oct. 9, 1940; James Paul McCartney, June 18, 1942; and George Harrison, Feb. 25, 1943; and the drummer Ringo Starr, Richard Starkey, July 7, 1940, were all born and raised in Liverpool.
Lennon and McCartney had played together in a group called The Quarrymen. With Harrison, they formed their own group, The Silver Beatles, in 1959, and Starr joined them in 1962.
As The Beatles, they developed a local following in Liverpool clubs, and their first recordings, «Love Me Do» (1962) and «Please Please Me» (1963), quickly made them Britain’s top rock group. Their early music was influenced by the American rock singers Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley, but they infused a hackneyed musical form with freshness, vitality, and wit.
The release of «I Want to Hold Your Hand» in 1964 marked the beginning of the phenomenon known as «Beatlemania» in the United States. The Beatles’ first U.S. tour aroused a universal mob adulation. Their concerts were scenes of mass worship, and their records sold in the millions.
Their first film, the innovative A Hard Day’s Night (1964), was received enthusiastically by a wide audience that included many who had never before listened to rock music. Composing their own material (Lennon and McCartney were the major creative forces),The Beatles established the precedent for other rock groups to play their own music. Experimenting with new musical forms, they produced an extraordinary variety of songs: the childishly simple «Yellow Submarine»; the bitter social commentary of «Eleanor Rigby»; parodies of earlier pop styles; new electronic sounds; and compositions that were scored for cellos, violins, trumpets, and sitars, as well as for conventional guitars and drums. Some enthusiasts cite the albums Rubber Soul (1965) and Revolver (1966) as the apex of Beatle art, although Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), perhaps the first rock album designed them atically as a single musical entity, is more generally considered their triumph.

The group disbanded in 1970, after the release of their final album, Let It Be, to pursue individual careers. On Dec. 8, 1980, John Lennon was fatally shot in New York City. In 1991, Paul McCartney’s classical composition Liverpool Oratorio was performed to some acclaim in Britain and the United States.

The Beatles: how I have found out them
They are known to everybody. This gorgeous “Liverpool Four” will be in the hearts of millions of people forever. Their songs are close to everyone, and even to those who don’t speak English.
In this essay I am not going to tell you the story of the band or its members. I think everyone can find and read “The story of the Beatles” in Wikipedia or in Google. Also, I won’t write about any interesting facts as the whole website is dedicated to this legendary rock band. I`ll just tell you about how I have found out the Beatles.
Of course, I’m not a great fan, like many other fans of the Beatles. I just like their songs. Everything is simple and clear for me.
I think many people will say: “Why are you listening to such old stuff? It’s stupid!” I think it’s not stupid. Many people are fond of their songs. It’s foolish to say that the Beatles are old. To my mind, the English proverb is right saying “Tastes differ”.
Of course, people like new types of music. But I’m sure, new music is not as good as the old one. There is no doubt that the Beatles will return soon. Their music will be popular in the world again.

Я узнала о The Beatles, когда мне было 12 лет. Нас попросили подготовить доклад для урока музыки о любой рок-группе. Мои одноклассники разобрали наиболее интересные группы, как им тогда казалось. Набрав в Интернете фразу «рок-группа», я получила множество страниц. Но я была привлечена только одной «The Beatles». Весь вечер я сидела перед компьютером, выбирая наиболее интересное и очень важное с моей точки зрения.
Конечно, я не большой любитель, как многие другие поклонники The Beatles. Я просто люблю их песни. Они просты и понятны для меня.
Я думаю, что многие люди говорят: «Почему вы слушаете старую музыку? Это глупо!» Я думаю, что это не глупо. Многие люди любят их песни. Глупо говорить, что The Beatles стары. На мой взгляд, английская пословица правильно говорит «О вкусах не спорят».
