Subculture
today the life of many young people in Russia as well as in other countries of the world is influenced by popular culture. The young follow certain stereotypes that are imposed on them through TV, movies, and music. In their lifestyle they try to imitate the images of their idols. Other young people are sports and music fans. They follow their idols in their tours and support them. Unfortunately they are intolerant to those who don’t share their view. It’s a specific aspect of the youth subculture that can’t be ignored.
I think that subculture is the culture of those who are dissatisfied with their place in society. Different subcultures have their own beliefs, value systems, fashion, and favourite music. For example the subculture of Rastafairians was based on nostalgia for a lost world. They idealized Africa. Rastafairians were Afro-Caribbean immigrants in Britain. They began to wear distinctive clothes, camouflage jackets, large hats in the red, gold and green colours of Ethiopia and put their long, uncut hair in dreadlocks. They brought to us such types of music as ska, reggae and hip-hop. Many subcultures developed as a result of music fusion of black and white cultures.
There are other subcultures that are not connected with music, and have a specific ideology. For example skinheads, which wore heavy boots, jeans and braces and shave their hair or cut it very short. Skinheads dreamed about the revival of the traditional working class culture. Skinheads were identified with extreme right wing views. Among other subcultures are Hippies, Punks, Mods, Rockers, Ravers and many others. Generally they were young people with low self-respect, who did poorly at school. They opposed the traditional world in which they where settled as fiasco elements.
Subcultures are not that bad as they are thought to be. Teens want to show off. But at the same time a lot of teens think about changing the world to the best. Subcultures are for mostly for young and creative. Then, I am sure, teenagers become good citizens. Some who were punks became the main editors of famous newspapers. A subculture is a way of life. It is not a fan club, it is an attributive feature of a real life.

Сегодня жизнь многих молодых людей в России, а также в других странах мира находится под влиянием массовой культуры. Молодые люди следуют определенным стереотипам, которые навязываются им через телевидение, кино и музыку. В своей жизни они пытаются имитировать изображения своих кумиров. Другие молодые люди увлекаются спортом и любят музыку. Они следуют за своими кумирами в туры и поддерживают их. К сожалению, они нетерпимы к тем, кто не разделяет их точку зрения. Subcultures are for energetic and creative young people. Some teenagers who were punks can become successful journalists, rockers become popular musicians, and basketball fans sometimes grow up to win world competitions. A subculture is not a fan club, it is a way of life.

Nowadays we are often told that young generation is absolutely impolite and disorganized. As for me, I partially agree with this opinion as there are various facts that support it.
To begin with, teenagers are reluctant to listen to their parents` advices because teens are absolutely convinced that they are always right and consequently do not need any help. They feel like looking independent and confident but, of course, in fact they can neither live on their own nor manage with all difficulties themselves. Moreover, teenagers are often very selfish and self-absorbed. They think, they are much better than other people. They do not understand thatthe way you treat people – you will be treated by them. In addition, I strongly believe that teenagers` behavior is influenced by mass media. Today most of young people have TV-sets as well as computers with permanent Internet connection in their bedrooms. Therefore, despite the fact that a lot of TV programmes are inappropriate for teens they watch them because few parents actually check up what their children watch. So, programmes containing offensive language, scenes of violence and loud screeches influence teens badly. It is really difficult for children to determine the difference between the reality and the fantasy. Hence, they start imitating the violent behaviour they see in their favourite programmes.
However, there are people who oppose this view. They suppose that teens seem to be rude and selfish due to their age. Their character is changing, they are growing up and have to take responsibilities and responsibility for their actions. It is very difficult for them to cope with these problems, that is why they become aggressive.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that a lot depends on parents and the way a child is bringing up. If a teenager has the common sense, then he or she will be able to solve any problem and improve his or her behavior.

Однако некоторые люди не согласны с таким мнением. Они полагают, что тинэйджеры кажутся грубыми и высокомерными из-за своего возраста. Их характер меняется, они взрослеют, им приходится нести ответственность за свои действия. Им трудно справляться со всеми этими проблемами, поэтому они становятся агрессивными.
В заключении, я абсолютно уверена, что многое зависит от родителей и воспитания. Если у подростка есть здравый смысл, тогда он способен решить любую проблему и исправить своё поведение.

Why do teens choose a subculture?
A subculture is a way of life. It isn’t a fan club, it’s a real life. It seems to them that the parents are always saying: No! That everything about them: their hair, their music, clothes, the way they talk, their dreams are considered bad by grown-ups. The young people are unsure of where they are going. So it’s a way of having something that they can say they belong to and that they are “whatever”.
Often young people do something not because they want to do it. They do things because everybody around does or because they think it’s impolite to refuse.
The inspiration to form a youth culture comes out of a combination of fashion, style and music. A subculture is group with a distinct style and identity. Different subcultures have their own beliefs, values, fashions…
Nevertheless, members of different subcultures may have something similar in their image, behavior, etc…
Some people think that all subcultures are awful. And I think this opinion is absolutely right.
